Retrospective of Bailey’s trench coats for Burberry

After the initial shock of the news of Christopher Bailey’s sudden departure, it’s time to recall what he did in fact to become so important to the fashion industry.

In the evolution of Burberry from a small family business for luxury outwear to one of the most remarkable names in fashion over the past decade, the designer has managed not only to preserve the traditions of the British brand but also to review and develop it in the most fashionable way.

But the design and business skills of one of the current fashion phenomenons are a vast subject and it is not the center of our attention today. Our thoughts are entirely focused on Bailey and his work of popularizing and elevating Burberry’s recognisable Burberry element icon, namely the trench.

From a beautiful and luxurious item usually related to the autumn season, Bailey turns the garment into an absolute object of desire, season after season, year after year.

We recall some of his unique works over the years in the gallery above – vinyl, exotic python, bright color and exaggerated decorations are just some of Bailey’s remarkable design and styling techniques.

Enjoy!
