Met Gala 2019 – What to expect?

The MET Museum announced the theme of the 2019 fashion gala which will take place in the first Monday of May 2019 - "Camp: Notes on Fashion"

First Monday in May, this year’s 6th, is again booked for a fashion marathon. Unexpectedly, the MET Museum announced the theme of the 2019 fashion gala – “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. And let’s make it clear, it’s not about camping in the woods, it’s about exaggerated fashion. The New York Times connects inspiration with Susan Zonta’s 1964 essay, which defines a campaign as “love for the unnatural: art and exaggeration.”

The organizers of the spectacular show have announced that the hosts will be Harry Styles and Lady Gaga. And Alessandro Michele of Gucci, along with the tennis icon Serena Williams, will join the two pop stars and the lead leader Anna Wintour for exactly 206 days. The exhibition will include a variety of fashion created by John Galliano, Palomeo Spane, Moschino (Jeremy Scott and Founder Franco), Jean Paul Gaultier and Gucci as an official sponsor of the event.

The Costume Institute’s spring 2019 exhibition will be “Camp: Notes on Fashion” opening ‪May 9, 2019‬ with #MetGala ‪on May 6.‬ The exhibition will explore the origins of the camp aesthetic and how it has evolved from a place of marginality to become an important influence on mainstream culture. Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp’” provides the framework for the exhibition, which will examine how fashion designers have used their métier as a vehicle to engage with camp in compelling, humorous, and sometimes incongruous ways. // 1.
