5 Tips on How to take care of your shoes?
The time of service of your favorite shoes depends on what they are and how you care about them. This is the answer to why you should take care about your shoes – to wear them as long as possible and always look good. Often in store you can not guess how durable they are, but you are fully in charge of their care.
1. Care begins from day one.
Expensive shoes serve you longer, but require special attention. The earlier you start with it, the longer you will have them. Leather is sensitive to moisture. In most cases, the smooth leather of the shoes is treated with wax by the manufacturers and virtually does not require extra care afterwards. But, if the shoes are made of suede, you should take care to make the leather water-repellent. There are special preparations for this.
2. Do not wear the same pair for two consecutive days.
This is an old and time-tested way to extend the life of your shoes. Even in dry weather your shoes take on the moisture of your feet. This is the reason why in the evening, whether the weather has been wet or not, your shoes to be deformed by wearing. Allow them to dry at room temperature for one day. Put them on a wooden block – the wood absorbs the moisture and helps to remove the unpleasant odor. So very quickly the shoes return to the original shape. The most suitable wood for shoe pads is cedar.
3. Clean them properly
How well you clean your shoes connects directly to the longevity of their service. Smooth leather shoes require regular care and not only for aesthetic purposes. Carefully selected high-quality fats contained in quality shoe creams, nourish the leather, prevent it from drying out and saturate the colour. Beeswax, which is the base of wax, covers it with a thin layer, protecting it from moisture and creating a light shine. If you do not nourish the skin of the shoes, it will soon begin to form folds.
Suede shoes require more attention than smooth leather shoes. You only need to use special brushes of the highest quality and never wash your shoes. If the suede is heavily polluted, give it to a specialized dry cleaner – there will not only clean your shoes, but will also make their colour more saturated.
What you should not do:
– Do not use silicone – the effect is short. The thin silicone layer does allow the leather to breath and it also attracts dirt that sticks to it. So in half an hour your shoes will be even dirtier.
– Do not clean the leather with a damp cloth and do not put it under running water.
– Do not use grease to clean and care for shoes with smooth skin. Fat penetrates into the skin structure and get out from there is virtually impossible. For original “oiled” fur shoes there are other special maintenance tools – get them.
– Do not dry your shoes mechanically – under a hairdryer or hot air jet. The consequences are often irreversible.
4. The fix must be on time.
When a basic shoe repair is required, do it immediately. If you have noticed that the sole is very worn during cleaning, give it immediately for repair. “Just to put them on once again and then take them to a shoemaker” is an option that can be fatal for your shoes.
5. Not everything is lost.
It’s no secret that shoes can be restored. If, while reading this, you think it would be a good idea to know it earlier if you have ruined your shoes with the wrong care, but you feel sorry to throw them away, not everything is lost. With the appropriate materials and colours you can regain their original look, but for this you have to trust certified professionals.
